Meet the Principal of Griffith

Mrs. Emily Fortunate is Griffith’s Principal and ten-year veteran of the Balsz School District.  Before she began her career in administration, with her Master's in Educational Leadership from Arizona State University, she taught fourth grade both in New Mexico and Arizona.  During her time in the classroom, she found her passion for coaching and mentoring teachers, which led her to her role as an instructional coach.  During her time in Balsz, she served as the instructional coach of Balsz Elementary K-8 and then was selected as the Assistant Principal of Tillman Middle School, where she served for four years.  In January 2023, Mrs. Fortunate shifted over to Griffith Elementary and was selected to assume the role of Principal.  Mrs. Fortunate’s experience in teaching and instructional coaching brings valuable knowledge to all areas of curriculum design, student assessment, classroom management, and shared leadership.  Mrs. Fortunate’s commitment to Griffith is evident in her innovative school initiatives, educational knowledge, understanding of the needs of the diverse student population, and a children-first mentality.  As a member of the community, you can find Mrs. Fortunate at local parks with her family, playing tennis, or going for a run.
